Sole


The sole is a night time feeding flatfish and is very good to eat.


Identification:

A dark brown flatfish with a white belly.

Size:

The average weight would be around 1lb but specimens in excess of 6lb are possible.

Season:

Normally captured from the shore between June and December.

Bait:

As for plaice, worm baits work better for these flatties. King Ragworm or a bunch of harbour ragworm work well especially when tipped with a strip of squid. Razorfish can also work well as times. Verm or lugworm can also work well.

Method:

Bottom fishing with light line and small hooks over sandy ground. These fish feed more at night and are not commonly captured during the day.
