Not just a big dofish, well actually they are really, Greater Spotted Dogfish, though they are rather different to their cousins.


Identification:

A big version of a dogfish really, darker colour and normally rather angry.

Size:

Small fish normally starting about 3 or 4lb in weight up to a maximum of about 13lb off the shore in our waters.

Season:

Autumn and Winter fish really.

Bait:

Fishy baits are the best bet, and sharp hooks. Mackerel, Squid, big sandeel.

Method:

Bottom fishing in very rough ground is the best bet for these fish. They also like places with a fair bit of tide running making it hard to fish for them.
