Squid and Cuttlefish
Squid and Cuttlefish are part of the cephalopod family and extremely diverse baits which can be used for all types of fish.
The squid comes in several different forms. the picture to the right is a local squid caught from St Peter Port Breakwater. These squid can grow to 3 feet in length or more and put up quite a fight when hooked.
They can also be purchased in blast frozen packs of calamari which are 3 to 8 inches long.
The cuttlefish is a smaller more rounded cephalopod which has a hard white backbone - you may see these washed up on beaches after a storm.
|Where to Get It:|
Squid can be purchased in blast frozen packs of small calamari of either 1lb or 5lb in weight. Cuttlefish can be purchased frozen whole.
Both can be caught using squid jigs from places such at St Peter Port breakwater at dusk.
|How to Keep Fresh:|
Both squid and cuttlefish can be deep frozen and stored for several months. They do not however re-freeze very well so it is best to store in packs which are the right size for your fishing trip.
