Baits

Limpet

The limpet is a somewhat underrated bait which can at times be used effectively for some species, indeed my personal best Ballan Wrasse, a touch over 5lb, fell to a double limpet bait presented into a heavy kelp bed on the west coast.

Identification:

The limpet is perhaps one of the best known shellfish, seen clinging tight to the rocks with their cone shaped shells.

Where to Get It:

Anywhere with rocks! It is best not to completely clear one area of limpets but to gather them from a wider zone.

How to Keep Fresh:

Limpets will keep fresh in a bucket with some bladder vraic (seaweed) for a few days.

Species to Catch:
Excellent For:Wrasse
Good For:Small Pollack,
Variable For:Bass, Bream
